ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. (WWNY) - The person who lived in the upstairs apartment is accused of setting an Alexandria Bay duplex on fire Wednesday morning.

State police say they charged 29 year old Nicholas Leeson with second-degree arson, a felony.

Firefighters and state police responded to the 2 Washington Street duplex shortly before 8:30 a.m. Troopers said Wednesday they believed the fire was suspicious.

No one was seriously injured. An elderly tenant in the ground floor apartment was treated for smoke inhalation. A neighbor says she believes a cat died in the fire.

Leeson was arraigned in Alexandria town court and sent to Jefferson County jail on $20,000 bail or $40,000 bond.

Firefighters from Alexandria Bay, Redwood, Plessis, and Clayton were called to help fight the blaze.
