WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Arnold Lane Hollenbeck Sr. passed away on June 30th at the Betsy Ross Nursing facility in the company of his daughter. In his last days, Arnold was surrounded by love from his family and friends, finding peace after a battle with cancer and other illnesses. He was 70 years old.

Arnold was born in Syracuse, NY, on November 25, 1949 the son of Ethel (Ransear) Hollenbeck and Richard L. Hollenbeck. He has always had an adventurous spirit which led him to travel as a carnival worker. He has also worked on a farm, as a janitor at Watertown High School, and with a snow removal company. Arnold is best known for his construction skills and the years spent bartending at the Hitchin’ Post Tavern where he made many friends.

A nature enthusiast, Arnold was an avid hunter and fisherman. Even after losing part of his leg to diabetes, you could still find him out on the ice ready to catch those fish. He loved nature shows and shows about survival (especially in the Alaskan frontier or on the Bering Sea) as well as anything airing on the Discovery Channel or History Channel. Arnold loved listening to the oldies, playing pool and could throw a mean game of darts.

Arnold is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Hollenbeck) Vincent of Watertown, NY ; sons, Arnold (& Shelia) Hollenbeck Jr. (Pamelia, NY), Lawrence (& Debra) Hollenbeck (Fayetteville, NC), and Michael Hollenbeck (Brenda Ingram) of Star Lake, NY ; brothers Darryl Hollenbeck (Nadia Holyk) of Oscoda, MI and Daniel Hollenbeck (& Linda) of Ithaca, NY, his first wife Norma (Dufrene) Hollenbeck Bidwell, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as a longtime girlfriend, Penny Sherbino (Alabama). He was preceded in death by his parents (Ethel & Richard), two brothers (Richard & Glenn Hollenbeck), two sisters (Selene Hollenbeck and Kathleen Conklin Higgins), his second wife (Barbara Lou Piper Hollenbeck), a son (Corey Hollenbeck), a son-in-law (Robert Vincent Jr.) and a great-grandchild (Liam Vincent).
