Service was restored Monday afternoon.

LEWIS COUNTY, N.Y. (WWNY) - Lewis County is reporting a phone outage.

County Manager Ryan Piche said phone lines operated by Frontier Communications are down.

However, he said the county's emergency 911 system is still working.

Frontier said a digging crew that’s neither affiliated with, nor working for Frontier cut into and damaged a fiber-optic cable near Remsen, New York.

Officials said the contractor’s damage is causing a service interruption for Frontier telephone service customers in Lewis County.

Frontier crews are on-site and working to fix the damage.

There was no estimated time as to when service will be restored.

While Frontier’s customers in this area may not have dial tone service, 911 service is available and can be accessed by cellular phone.
