WADDINGTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - A couple narrowly escaped when their fifth-wheel travel trailer was destroyed by fire in Waddington Tuesday morning.
Owner Larry Thomas discovered the fire when he opened a kitchen cabinet. He and his wife escaped safely.
Firefighters say knew they were heading to a fire well underway when they left the station for 1810 County Route 44.
“Pulling out of the hall I noticed heavy black smoke at that time," Waddington Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Sharlow said. “I knew she was burning pretty good.”
The back of the trailer was ablaze when firefighters arrived.
“When we arrived on scene the rear of the trailer was fully involved at that time," Sharlow said. "There were flames out pretty much every window.”
In addition to Waddington, firefighters from Louisville and Madrid also fought the blaze. The cause remains under investigation.
