WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - A Watertown church is serving up a slice of appreciation.
Watertown police officers and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were each treated to custom cakes by Asbury United Methodist Church Wednesday.
Some parishioners joined the events to share their appreciation for the officers.
Pastor Laura Calos says this small act of kindness was a way to step outside the church and do something for people who protect the community.
“We’re just trying to go from place to place letting people know we appreciate them,” she said, “especially during this COVID crisis.”>
Even the small gestures mean a lot and we’re very fortunate to live in a community where we do have a lot of support," sheriff’s department Sgt. Joseph Cullen said, “and we appreciate what the community does for us too.”
Next month the church has a similar event planned for Samaritan Medical Center staff.
