WWNY Salvation Army gets head start on Red Kettle campaign

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The bells are ringing in Watertown as the Salvation Army gets a head start on its Red Kettle campaign.

Starting Monday, bell ringers are at 6 locations in the area, including Tops Markets, Price Chopper, Kinney Drugs, and Hobby Lobby.

This is an earlier start than usual for the organization.

The Red Kettle campaign is a massive fundraiser for the Salvation Army.

It helps pay for meals for the needy as well as the Christmas toy giveaway.

Organizers say they’re already seeing a greater need for help this holiday season due to the pandemic.

“The need is there. It’s always been there. It’s made worse by COVID,” said Major Dennis Smullen, Salvation Army

You can give in person at the red kettles or donate online.
