CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - St. Lawrence County has added dozens of new COVID-19 cases since Friday, 40 to be exact.

Fourteen were added Monday and 26 over the weekend. Eleven people are in hospitals there.

In a county board meeting Monday night, Public Health director Dr. Dana McGuire had more statistics outlining the significance of the current COVID-19 spike.

In the entire month of October, the county had 84 new cases of COVID-19. Less than a week and a half into November, the county has already seen 93 new cases.

County health officials also say contact tracing has slowed down because of the spike in cases and following the recent cyberattacks at three St. Lawrence Health System hospitals.

The county declared a state of emergency because of COVID-19 on Monday.
