CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - St. Lawrence County’s death toll due to COVID-19 is now up to nine.
Public Health director Dana McGuire reported to the Legislature’s finance committee Monday night that three deaths have not been reported previously.
“If you check the state tracker, this has not been updated yet, so we have had three recent deaths,” she said.
The deaths were not reported on the county’s daily COVID-19 update released Monday afternoon.
McGuire said the average age of the nine who died was 77 and the average age of those who test positive is 41.
McGuire also told the committee that the county has had 754 cases so far during the pandemic and 12 are currently hospitalized.
There are 135 active cases.
The committee discussed whether the county was approaching what the state calls “yellow zone” status.
Members agreed to buy two rapid-testing machines to minimize the delay between tests and results.
Another death was reported Monday in Lewis County. That makes four for that county.
