LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - Lewis County’s highway department was under a precautionary quarantine Friday after one employee tested positive for COVID-19, county manager Ryan Piche confirmed Friday night.
The quarantine was first reported by the web site Linking Lewis County.
The person who tested positive is in isolation, a county official told Linking Lewis County. The remaining employees are all in quarantine.
The quarantine was made necessary because all the highway department employees were together for a meeting Monday.
Highway superintendent Timothy Hunt told the web site there are plans in place to allow the quarantined workers to plow roads and do some other work, and town and village highway departments are also ready to help out.
There is a chance of snow in the Lowville area this weekend, but according to the National Weather Service, little or no accumulation is expected.
