TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. (WWNY) - A suspect is in custody after allegedly firing a gun at a hardware store in the Franklin County village of Tupper Lake.
It happened around 2:30 PM Thursday afternoon.
No injuries were reported, but at least one bullet created a hole inside Fortune’s True Value Hardware on Main Street.
The store’s co-owner, Maurice Fortune, tells 7 News reporter Lexi Bruening that a man with a rifle was hiding in a shed across the street. Fortune says he heard nine shots through the shed’s window.
Fortune also says the man then entered the store with the rifle, saying “people were after him,” but didn’t specify who.
Fortune says the suspect left through the back door. Police took the man into custody shortly after.
Fortune says he’s still in shock, but grateful everyone is okay.
“I mean it was, I just couldn’t believe it,” he said. “We don’t see that kind of thing around here very often, so it was hard to believe,” said Fortune.
Tupper Lake police say the shooting is still being investigated.
