Suspect in Fort Drum soldier’s murder remains in Oneida County Jail

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WWNY) - A murder suspect, wanted in New Jersey, remains in a New York state jail more than a week after he was charged.

Oneida County Jail reports 23 year old Jamaal Mellish is still in military custody waiting to be extradited to New Jersey.

The Fort Drum soldier is accused of abducting another Fort Drum soldier in the Watertown area and then allegedly killed 20 year old Hayden Harris in New Jersey.

The two were apparently swapping vehicles.

Mellish faces murder and kidnapping charges. A 16 year old male also faces similar charges in the case.
