Trump, supporters to blame for DC violence, elector says

June O'Neill on DC violence

POTSDAM, N.Y. (WWNY) - Amid the chaos surrounding the electoral college vote count, 7 News reporter Abbey Buttacavoli spoke to a north country elector who cast her ballot alongside the rest of New York’s for Joe Biden.

June O’Neill says blame for Wednesday’s events at the capitol lies with President Donald Trump and supporters of his such as Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.

O’Neill, a Democrat in the electoral college, calls Wednesday’s events at the Capitol frankly embarrassing -- for the nation and for the north country.

She says people like Stefanik have enabled the president, leading to events like Wednesday’s in Washington.

“It’s the man himself and the people who have enabled him all bear some responsibility in this,” she said. “The people who wouldn’t stand up to him, wouldn’t stand up for the people, wouldn’t stand up to protect the country and again our current congresswoman signed up, big time.”

O’Neill calls the D.C. event a riot and says the people involved are the opposite of patriots.

She added she believes they are possibly even advocating for sedition.
