HAMDEN, C.T. (WWNY) - The Clarkson Golden Knights opening a weekend series in Hamden, Connecticut against Quinnipiac in a battle of ranked teams on Friday.
The Golden Knights were off to a quick start. Just 3:14 in, Luke Mobley comes up with the rebound and connects, putting Clarkson up 1-0. Less than a minute later, Clarkson adds to its lead when Jack Jacome beats Keith Petruzzelli with the 5 hole. Score: 2-0 Golden Knights. Still in the 1st, it’s Nick Campoli with the one timer that’s too hot to handle, his 2nd of the season. 3-0 Clarkson.
Late into the 1st period, Quinnipiac cuts into the Golden Knights lead when Peter DiLiberatore lights the lamp on the power play. Score: 3-1 Clarkson after 1 period.
Early in the 2nd, Quinnipiac on the power play, Ty Smilianic dents the back of the net, cutting the Golden Knights lead to 1 at 3-2.
But Clarkson answers midway through the period when Anthony Callin splits the pipes on the power play, increasing the Golden Knights lead to 4-2
Quinnipiac counters less than 4 minutes later when Christophe Fillion finds the mark. The Golden Knights lead back down to 1 at 4-3 after 2 periods.
In the 3rd period, Quinnipiac was on the delayed penalty as Logan Britt winds and fires, tying the game at 4.
This one goes to overtime where Zach Tsekos goes top shelf on the doorstep, giving the Golden Knights a 5-4 win in overtime.
With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 7-3-1 on the season, 2-0-1 in ECAC play.
