HAMILTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - The St. Lawrence University men’s hockey team was back in action, traveling to Hamilton for a rare Thursday night ECAC contest against former Saints assistant Don Vaughn and his Colgate Red Raiders.
The Skating Saints were looking to remain undefeated in ECAC play as they faced off against the Red Raiders.
1st period: ECAC goaltender of the week Emil Zetterquist continuing his hot play, coming up with some big saves to keep Colgate off the board.
Saints get on the board late in the first period when David Jankowski jumps on the loose puck in front and dents the back of the net. A power play goal: Saints up 1-0 after one period.
Second period: the Saints add to their lead when Cameron Buhl dents the back of the net, increasing the St. Lawrence lead to 2-0.
Colgate looking to cut into the Saints’ lead, but Zetterquist comes up with the stop to keep it a 2-0 game after two periods.
Third period: the Red Raiders cut into the Saints’ lead when Arnaud Vachon splits the pipes. The Saints’ lead is cut to 1 at 2-1.
With a little over a minute left, the Red Raiders with an extra attacker, looking to tie it up, but Zetterquist comes up with one of his 25 saves on the night.
St. Lawrence holds on to win 2-1, with tempers flaring after the final horn.
Saints improve to 2-0-1 on the season and are back in action Saturday night at Appleton Arena as they host the same Red Raiders team with the puck set to drop at 7 p.m.
