CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - A busy weekend came to a close in Men’s ECAC hockey action on Sunday, with both the Skating Saints of St. Lawrence and the Clarkson Golden Knights closing out series.
At Appleton Arena, the Saints were looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season as they hosted the Colgate Red Raiders.
In the 2nd period, the Saints got on the board when Philip Alftberg scores on the power play. Saints up 1-0.
In the 3rd period, it was still 1-0 Saints when Josh McKechney tickles twine for a shorthanded goal, tying the game at 1.
The Saints appear to take the lead with a little over 3 minutes left on Justin Paul’s tally, but the goal is waved off due to goalie interference.
The game ends in a 1 all tie, but it’s on to a shootout for the extra point and Nicholas Trila connects to give the Saints the extra point.
The Saints are now 2-1-2 on the season. They play again Wednesday at 3 PM against Niagara.
Clarkson was also closing out a weekend series at Quinnipiac.
In the 1st period, Ty Smilanic lights the lamp, putting Quinnipiac on top 1-0.
Clarkson would outshoot Quinnipiac 28-14, but Quinnipiac goalie Keith Petruzelli would stop all 28 shots he faced on the afternoon. Final score: 1-0 Quinnipiac.
Clarkson falls to 7-5-1 on season. They play next on Friday at 5 PM against St. Lawrence University.
