GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. (WWNY) - A new stage of COVID-19 vaccinations starts this week and a regional drug store chain says it will have doses available for people age 75 and older.

Kinney Drugs says it will offer the Moderna vaccine by appointment only. Appointments will be available in all Kinney locations beginning Thursday, January 14.

You can sign up for an appointment on the Kinney website. Clicking on the “Schedule Appointment” link will take you to pages where you can schedule an appointment and fill out forms necessary for vaccination.

It’s the start of what’s known as Phase 1b, which is for essential workers in addition to those 75 and up. It follows phase 1a, which is for health care workers and nursing home residents and staff.

On its website, the drug store chain says the state will allow its pharmacists to administer the vaccine only to that age group.
