Local food in winter? No problem!

Local food is available

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - When we think of local food, we usually think of farmers’ markets in warmer months. But there are also options available when it’s colder.

April Bennett is nutrition program manager at Cornell Cooperative Extension. She says there is plenty of local food available.

Watch the video for her interview on 7 News This Morning.

Among the options are winter squashes, such as acorn, butternut, and spaghetti squashes. There are also root vegetables, including potatoes, beets, and carrots. You can also find cabbages and onions.

In some cases, you can shop online and have the food delivered.

You can track down your options at pickyourown.org, northstarfoodhub.com, taste.ny.gov, and jcnylocalfoods.org.
