2 north country counties see unemployment rate dips from a year ago

ALBANY, N.Y. (WWNY) - All three north country counties saw increases in their unemployment rates from November to December, but two saw decreases from the year before.

Jefferson County’s unemployment rate went from 6.9 percent in December 2019 to 6.3 percent last month. Its rate was 5.3 percent in November.

In Lewis County, the jobless rate fell from 6.7 percent in December 2019 to 6 percent in December 2020. November’s rate was 4.9 percent.

St. Lawrence County’s rate inched up from 5.7 percent in December 2019 to 5.9 percent last month. It was 4.9 percent in November.

The state’s rate overall took a big hit year to year. It was 8.1 percent last month and 3.7 percent the year before.
