CARTHAGE, N.Y. (WWNY) - A chemical fire at a defunct paper mill between the villages of Carthage and West Carthage has been put out, according to local fire departments.

It had been burning since last week.

On Monday, the Carthage codes department condemned the old Island Paper Company mill.

The chemical that was burning has not been identified, but air testing continues to show no evidence of danger to the public.
