CHAUMONT, N.Y. (WWNY) - A month ago, 7 News lost one of our own, Jeff Shannon, to COVID-19. It’s been a massive loss to us, and the community he made a better place.
On Sunday, the village of Chaumont Fire Department wanted to give back to Jeff’s family, with a chicken barbeque fundraiser.
A portion of the proceeds go to the Shannon family, to honor Jeff, who volunteered his time there as an affiliate member of the department.
Chief Fred Jackson says Jeff would always lend a hand for chicken barbeques and other fundraisers, so this year’s Valentine’s Day barbecue had extra meaning.
“We normally do one on Valentine’s Day, but we come up with a really good reason to do one today, and that’s to benefit the Shannon family and the fire department both,” Jackson said.
Cars started lining up an hour before the drive-thru started, and the department sold about 500 chicken halves.
