HENDERSON HARBOR, N.Y. (WWNY) - As the shipping season starts, attention turns to how much water is in the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario.
The water in Henderson Harbor is still iced over, but the International Joint Commission is dipping its toe into the controversial topic with better news for those with property along the water.
The IJC believes the risk of flooding this summer is low.
Bill Saiff, the owner of the West View Lodge, says he has already noticed a difference.
“It’s lower for sure. Yeah, I’m looking at my neighbor’s docks; you can never see 2-feet of daylight underneath those docks. We’re at least a good 2-feet low, two-and-a-half feet low right now,” he said.
Saiff says high water has caused a lot of damage along the waterfront, and low water levels allow him to make some repairs.
