WASHINGTON (WWNY) - Airports in Watertown and Ogdensburg will get about $1 million apiece for what federal officials are calling a lifeline to local airports.

In announcing the money, senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say it will help airports stay afloat after nearly a year of limited operations because of the pandemic.

The Watertown and Ogdensburg airports will get roughly identical amounts that are slightly more than $1 million each. That’s the lion’s share of $2.5 million for 12 airports across the state.

Air travel was severely reduced over the past year because the fear of COVID-19 spread.

The money will be allocated through the Federal Aviation Administration.
