WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - A street on the North side of Watertown was shut down for several hours Friday evening following a possible bomb scare.

City police and firefighters were called to a home on Phelps Street for what the owner believed to be a military blasting cap.

Fort Drum’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit was then called to the scene to further investigate, finding the can to just be full of nuts and bolts.

A member of the unit says the label on the can was misleading.

The street was reopened shortly after 7 PM.
