WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - We wish Zoo New York a very happy 100th birthday!

Zoo staff held a birthday party Sunday morning to celebrate the centennial.

The zoo at Watertown’s Thompson Park was founded way back in 1921 by the Park Zoo Club.

The group purchased the first animal for the zoo, Bucko the Bear, for just $10.40.

There are over a dozen animal species to visit now.

The zoo is open for the summer from 10 AM to 5 PM every day.
