About the Position:

This position will serve as a Nutrition and Food Systems Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County and will implement nutrition and local food related educational programs and program activities. This position will implement educational programming to the public to improve nutritious food and lifestyle choices among youth, families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout Jefferson County. This position will be responsible for the delivery of programming to individuals (adults and youth) and community groups in a variety of settings to include, but not limited to one-on-one teaching, home visitation, food demonstrations, cooking classes, farmers markets, farm visits, grocery store tours, and group workshops. This will also include providing information via social media via Facebook, electronic newsletters, and other relevant venues. Program topics will include but are not limited to food and nutrition throughout the lifecycle, food preparation, food preservation, local food resource programs (for consumers and producers), implementation of SNAP-EBT at farmers market, creating linkages between consumers and producers, working with the Jefferson County Food Policy Council to advance the local food system, and creating/promoting agritourism events. The educator will deliver nutrition/local food/food system related programming and activities, both on-site and off-site and in the community in accordance with the Local Food Program Area’s plan of work. The position will coordinate educational opportunities and technical assistance and will foster business development promoting and creating links between consumers/end users and agricultural sectors in Jefferson County. This position will assist the Nutrition Issue Leader with marketing efforts for nutrition and food systems.

Required Qualifications:

· Master’s Degree or equivalent education (Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of transferrable relevant evidence research-based experience).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day operations of Watertown Urban Mission, a non-profit Christian-based organization that serves Jefferson County through programs including the Bridge Program, Meals on Wheels, Getting Ahead, Critical Support, Housing Assistance, Food Pantry, the CARE Center, and the Impossible Dream Thrift Store. Incumbent must: develop and cultivate relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to include member churches, local service clubs, non-profit organizations, businesses and the community-at-large; demonstrate collaborative approach to addressing community needs; direct overall activities in a holistic, multi-disciplinary team approach aimed at addressing the social determinants of health, increasing stability, and improving the overall quality of life for vulnerable residents of Jefferson County.

The Executive Director will prioritize and develop the potential programs of Watertown Urban Mission and direct and evaluate the current programs and staff who work with clients and volunteers. Have or develop a dedication to the Watertown Urban Mission. Demonstrate good oral and written communication, leadership and public speaking skills; excellent motivational capability; good organizational development; staff supervision and financial management skills; ability to work with people of all ages and from all walks of life. Is a self starter and responsible with excellent relational skills. Marketing, public relations skills, and financial and budgetary acumen are high priorities and required. Demonstrated ability to supervise a diverse staff is desired.

MAJOR DUTIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Performs tasks and/or functions as delegated by the Board of Directors through its president to ensure accomplishment of the goals and objectives of the Mission and its programs.
  • Ensure the existence of and implementation of appropriate policies which have been approved by the Board.
  • Ensures that program personnel provide all clients, volunteers and the community with timely, warm, friendly and compassionate care and services.
  • Lead, manage, and supervise a team of 18 - 20 paid employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal education to meet the requirements for an Executive Director of the Watertown Urban

Mission is a baccalaureate or higher degree from an approved college or university. A Master of

Science degree in the Social Sciences is preferred. A minimum of two years of professional experience in the delivery of social services, which shall include at least one year in a responsible administrative position.

Salary commensurate with experience in the range of $58,000 to $65,000. This is a 40 hour per week position, with some evening, weekend, and holiday commitments.

This position will serve as the Taste NY Market Store Clerk and will work under the direction and supervision of the Taste NY Market Manager and Taste NY Assistant Market Manager. About the Position:

This position will serve as a Nutrition, Life Skills and Local Foods Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County and will implement nutrition, food access, and life skills educational programs and program activities to the public to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among youth, families and individuals encompassing all age groups in a variety of settings to include, but not limited to food demonstrations, cooking classes, grocery store and farm tours, home visits and group workshops. This will also include providing information via social media, electronic and print newsletters, and other relevant venues. Program areas will include SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education as well as General Community Nutrition Education. Program topics will include but are not limited to food and nutrition throughout the lifecycle, food preparation, food and household budgeting, local food, where our food comes from, food systems, healthy food incentive programs, and canning and food preservation. The educator will deliver life skills, nutrition, local food, and food systems related programming and activities, both on-site and off-site and in the community in accordance with the Nutrition Program Area’s and Local Foods Area’s plans of work. As part of this role, the educator will assist local farmers markets with processing EBT payments and providing consumer education on local food incentive programs at markets and throughout the community. This position will assist the Nutrition Program Manager with marketing efforts for nutrition and local foods programming.

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and 2 years of transferrable program/functional experience) in public health, nutrition, exercise science, or related field.

· Experience relevant to the role of the position.

· Experience with and understanding of rural, low-income populations.

· Cooking/Food Demonstration experience

· Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements.

· Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
