WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A sweep by two police agencies over the weekend found some Watertown stores failed to properly ID people who were buying alcohol.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Watertown Police Department did a compliance check of about 40 stores on Saturday.

A handful, police say, didn’t make sure their customers were at least 21 years old.

Cited were State Street Market, State Street Wine and Liquor, the General Store on Bradley Street, the Franklin Street Market, the 7-Elevens in Watertown and Evans Mills, and Dexter Liquors.
