WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Linda J. Converse, 68, Watertown, aka “Ma Helmet” wife of Michael “Mike” Converse, passed away Friday August 5th, 2022 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness with AML.

The funeral for Linda will be 10 am Tuesday August 9th, 2022 at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday August 8th from 4 pm – 7 pm at the funeral home.

Linda is survived by her husband of 49 years, Michael; her son Kevin Michael; her two daughters and sons-in-law Diane and Kristian Loftus and Tina and Ted Clement, all of Watertown; her grandchildren Kacie Converse, Kage and Brynn Loftus, Mackenzie, Lukas and Evan Clement; two sisters Jeanette (Jim) Lettiere, Clayton, Robin Tanner, Florida; a brother Richard Godfrey Sr., New Jersey; several nieces and nephews. Linda was predeceased by her parents, a brother Arthur Godfrey, and a brother-in-law David Tanner.

She was born on Staten Island, May 8, 1954, a daughter to the late Carl “Ted” and Jane Metz Godfrey. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1972. Linda married Michael Converse January 13th, 1973 at Holy Family Church. Linda was the bookkeeper for the family business, Converse Welding, Watertown, since the business was formed and still held that position at the time of her passing.

Linda was a member of the Black River American Legion auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with family at their cottage, golfing, boating and shopping. She mostly enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Linda and Mike spent winters in Florida for several years.

Memorial contributions may be made in Linda’s name to the Leukemia Foundation or to Hospice.
