Barbara A Girard, 74, of Massena

MASSENA, New York (WWNY) - Barbara A Girard age 74, passed away on Friday March 24, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving wife and family.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Phillips Memorial Home located at 64 Andrews Street Massena, NY.

Barbara, better known to the people she loved as Barb, was a devoted wife and mother. She was a kindhearted soul who would always put anyone else’s needs above her own and would give anyone the shirt off her back if they needed it. Her family was the light of her life, both her wife Dee and her daughter Danielle, who was better known as “The Kid” to Barb. Barb enjoyed spending quality time with her friends and family, laughing every chance she had with them, and loved to travel, taking in every moment life had to offer. She loved to have Happy Hour with her friends and family, which always included reminiscing about the olden days. Her sense of humor was one of the best around, even up to her final moments. She was a strong, brave, and beyond loyal person.

Barb spent her adolescent years growing up in the town of Louisville where she graduated from Holy Family High. Barb would later move to Washington D.C. where she worked for a short while for the FBI analyzing fingerprints. She relocated back to Louisville where her family and close friends resided, and worked at Alcoa in Area 1 until she retired in 2007. Barb was always finding fun along her journey. She would later work at BJ’s Wholesale Club where you could find her smiling face upfront helping and assisting others. Everywhere Barb went she made more friendships and those friendships became like family.

Barbara is survived by her loving wife of 14 years Deanna Oakes of Louisville; one daughter Danielle Oakes of Louisville; a sister Joyce Legault of Louisville and three sister-in-law’s, Lorenza Girard of Louisville; Cindy Girard of Louisville and Linda Girard of Louisville. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents Eli and Evelyn (Rouselle) Girard. Three brothers Robert Girard, Carl Girard and Richard Girard and one sister Alma Wilkins and two brother in laws, Dennis Wilkins and Raymond Legault.

The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Peggy Pearson, Mary Kay Johnston-Almond, Christine Grant, and Bridget Davey for everything they have done. Not only did they help in taking care of Barb, but also taking care of Dee and Danielle. The family would also like to thank Lorenza Girard, Sofi Wilkins, and Vicky Thursby for helping in the care of Barb while they were in town to visit with her, as well as everything they brought to aid in her care. The family cannot thank you enough or express their appreciation and gratitude enough.

Arrangements are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
