MASSENA, New York (WWNY) - Edward R. Layton, Sr., 61, of Clary Street, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday morning, May 24, 2023 at his home
Ed was born on April 30, 1962 in Easton, Maryland, the son of the late Wilmer and Peggy Ann (Matthews) Layton. He was a graduate of Milford Junior-Seymour High School in Delaware. After high school graduation, he entered the United States Navy, proudly serving his country until his discharge on October 31, 1996. In 1999, he started his career with the New York State Department of Correctional Services, working at various facilities until his retirement in 2022 from Riverview Correctional Facility. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 4, Massena and enjoyed camping, boating, motorcycling, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by wife, Margo (Welch), who he married on April 23, 2010 in Lyon Mountain, New York; his children, Edward R. Layton, Jr (Taylor) of Matthews, North Carolina; Natasha Wilson (Andres Medina) of Massena; Jacob Layton (Nikki) of Valleyfield, Quebec; Caleb Layton of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Keith Wilson (Elise Sienkiewycz) of Moira; a chosen son, Anthony Boule of Massena; his grandchildren, Riley, Erik, Isla, Archer, and Emerson; his mother-in-law, Julianna Welch of Merrill, New York; and his beloved dog, Rocky.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Dale Layton; and his father-in-law, Leonard Welch.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where friends may call Tuesday 2-4:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Lyon Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans.
