Petite Rodman Woman Lifts 200+ PoundsPosted: Updated:
Kerri Keegan is 4' 11" and weighs 106 pounds, but don't let her petite size fool you.
The 22 year old Rodman woman can lift 200 pounds and more.
"It's just not enough anymore. You're like, okay, now it's time for 210. Now I want to set the American record. It's fun, but you always want more for yourself," she said.
Keegan has always been athletic.
She played sports throughout high school, played soccer at SUNY Cortland, and has done crossfit for the past four years.
She didn't begin weightlifting until her boyfriend, who is also a weightlifter, said he wanted to train her.
"He was like, if you can give me a few months, I think we could do some damage at University Nationals, I think you could set some records and I was, like, okay, like, I guess I could try it for a couple months while I'm at school," she said.
Keegan did go to the USA Weightlifting National University Championships, where she picked up two silver medals and a gold.
This past November, she picked up two more gold medals and a silver at the Weightlifting World University Championships.
Keegan says it was one of the best experiences of her life.
"I was around athletes that I had looked up to and never thought I would even meet and I was competing with them on the same team, it was insane," she said.
Keegan is currently training for the USA Weightlifting National Championships in Chicago.
She says she's not sure about competing in the Olympics someday, but she isn't ruling it out.
