Frontier League Sends 10 Wrestlers To StatesPosted: Updated:
Ten Frontier League wrestlers dreams of placing and making the podium as they head to the New York State championships that get underway in Albany on Friday.
Indian River is represented by Stephan Colbert. The 126-pound wrestler is making his first trip to the states.
"To get first, that's the only goal that you should ever shoot for in states," he said. "After all the work I put in this summer, I felt like I would make it this year."
Caleb Null of Carthage made it to states at 220 pounds. It's his second trip to Albany.
"I think it will help, how the format is," he said. "Winning a match down there last year was big."
South Lewis is sending two wrestlers. Kyle Fitzgerald is in the 285-pound weight class. It's his first trip to states.
"I'm just really excited to get the opportunity to finally wrestle in states," he said. "I hope to place in states -- that's my goal."
Morgan Seller of South Lewis will wrestle at 160 pounds. It's also his first trip to states.
"I'm excited for it," he said. "Been training for a year non-stop for my chance. The support system i had, everyone was behind me, everyone wanted me to make it..
General Brown is also sending two. It's Trevor Snow's first trip to Albany. He's wrestling at 170 pounds.
"It's my senior year, so I'm just going to take every match one match at a time, hopefully give it my all and end up where I should be."
Luke Rogers is also representing General Brown.Another first-year visitor to states, he's wrestling at 220 pounds.
"Its a little shocking. At the same time, I kind of worked for it. Going to go down there and do what we have to do."
South Jefferson-Sandy Creek wrestlers were not available for the local media session.
The team is sending Trey Laflamme at 113 pounds, wild card Matt Garland at 106 pounds, Caleb Beach at 160 pounds, and Joe Benedict at 195 pounds.
