Potsdam Teen Wins Food Network CompetitionPosted: Updated:
Standing at the grill is nothing new for 14 year old Kobe Cooper. He loves to cook. He watched is grandfather and parents do it for years.
"It came from watching my dad and mom. I'm in a family where everybody cooks and cooking and food is kind of a big deal," he said.
Cooper just won $10,000 part of a national TV show, Food Network's Kids BBQ Championship.
"They had a new show they could get me on if I was interested, which I was. During Christmas break, we got an email saying I was accepted," he said.
Cooper has been cooking for years, but he never thought the dream of making a network TV show would become a reality.
"I never thought this day would actually come that I would be on TV," he said.
Over his winter break, Cooper flew out to California to tape the show. He says it was an intense experience unlike any other.
Even though Cooper never imagined he would get to see himself cook on-screen, he says anyone can do it.
"It doesn't matter your cooking skills. If you can cook just a little bit, you just have to take it to the next step and apply and anyone can be on TV," he said.
You'll continue to find Cooper at the grill because he can stand the heat.
