Vendors Pack Paddock Arcade for Small Business SaturdayPosted: Updated:
Shop local... the nationwide motto Saturday, encouraging shoppers to take advantage of small businesses. The Paddock Arcade was decked out in festive decor to kickoff the holiday season with dozens of vendors.
One of them is Sarah Dusharm, who said events like this are a big benefit for her small candle business.
"This is how we get a lot of our exposure since we don't have a storefront because we are a small business," Dusharm said. "This is really how we get our names out there."
Organizer and Watertown First president Cody Horbacz said this is the third year that more than a thousand people have come through the Paddock Arcade for one reason, besides all of the holiday traditions, to shop local.
People took the time to check out all the vendors had to offer... things they say you won't find in any big box stores.
"You find a lot of different things that you wouldn't find in the local stores or out at the mall," said Watertown resident Karen Loftus said. "And, there's a lot of homemade items here that are beautiful."
Horbacz has one major goal in mind for the big holiday market each year...
"I hope people walk out of here today having a better appreciation for local, independent businesses. And, I hope that through the holiday season they think about shopping local first," Horbacz said.
A jumpstart to what they hope is more of a local shopping season.
