McKena R LaPlaca age 14 of Adams earned her butterfly angel wings on December 28, 2017.
The funeral mass will be 11 am Tuesday, January 2nd at St. Cecilia’s Church, 17 Grove St., Adams with Rev. Martin Cline officiating. Calling hours will be Monday, January 1st from 1 pm – 5 pm at St. Cecilia’s Church. There will be a Celebration of Her Life at the Adams Fire Department on Tuesday following the funeral.
McKena was a 9th grader at South Jefferson Central School, where she was a member of the Sources of Strength Club. She was an ambassador for the Central NY MDA and was a brownie in Troop # 50003. She loved Math, Science and forged special relationships with classmates and teachers alike.
McKena was an inspiration to everyone she met exhibiting courage, bravery, resilience, her own sense of style and kindness at every turn. An avid Target shopper, she loved roaming the aisles collecting clothing, makeup, accessories and music. She enjoyed going to the movies, playing games on her iPad and eye gaze, listening to music and spending time with her family. Her family including her nurses were her everything. Some of her best memories were made while attending the Double H Ranch "Camp Inspiration". McKena will be missed beyond measure.
McKena is survived by her mother and step father, Elizabeth “Beth” and Gary Comins and her father and his fiancé’ Steven LaPlaca and Susan, all of Adams; grandparents Douglas and Mary MacIlvennie, Mannsville and Marilyn LaPlaca, Watertown; her sister Lindsay LaPlaca (Michael Krause), Rochester; her brothers Robert LaPlaca and Andrew (Casey) LaPlaca, all of Adams; her nephew Mason LaPlaca and niece Lia LaPlaca; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the South Jefferson Central School for a fund to be established for the constructions of a playground for disabled and handicapped children or to the Double H. Ranch, 97 Hidden Valley Rd., Lake Luzerne, NY 12846.
