Forum Increases Awareness About Students In Poverty
Educators and school administrators in the north country are learning more about poverty issues through a new forum.
The Institute for Learning Centered Education introduced an enrichment program at Jefferson Community College Friday.
The forum ran all day and included 90 guests from organizations and school districts across the north country.
The goal of the program is to increase awareness about students that are in impoverished.
"The other purpose of this is to link community organizations with schools. We find there are a lot of resources available to schools that educators are unaware of and when we hold a session like this and we connect them with community organizations. Each finds ways they can help the other with poverty and trauma," said Don Mesibov, institute founder.
The forum included several presentations and activities that focused on the needs of students who are poor.
