George M. Spencer Jr., 68, of Calcium

George M. Spencer Jr., 68, of Calcium, passed away January 31, 2018 at his home following complications of COPD.  He was surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born on February 22, 1949, son of George Spencer Sr. and Fern (Paige) Spencer, he graduated from Watertown High School in 1967.

George was a member of the 479th Engineer Battalion in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1975.  Following the service he held various jobs including Griffin Roofing, St. Regis Paper Co. from 1969 to 1979, 801 Housing for Fort Drum from 1981 to 1983, and manager of Animal House Pet Store from 1984 to 2006.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his brother in law, David Wallace Sr.and lifelong friends in Southern Tier, he was an avid racing fan, and loved his bird (Jagger) and his dogs and cats.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Judith (Chiumento) Spencer and five children, Darby Spencer, NC, Shauna (T.J.) Tuck, VA, Charity (Adris) Ragland, NC, Jaime (Eddie) Hilliard, NC and Ali (Shane) White, NY, eight grandchildren, one great grandson, two sisters, Marcia Landry, Watertown and Cindy Spencer Wallace, Watertown, a brother and sister in law, Donnie and Carron Spencer, Carthage, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Linda Drake, and a brother Brad Spencer.

Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.  A Celebration of Life will take place this summer.
