A 34 year old Pennsylvania man faces charges after smashing his snowmobile into a tree in Lewis County.

It happened last Friday afternoon at Smith Road in the town of West Turin.

Sheriff's deputies said Christopher Regula of Landisville was operating his snowmobile while intoxicated, failed to negotiate a curve and collided head-on into a tree.

Regula was thrown from the sled and later taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica.

Deputies said his injuries were not life threatening and he was later released from the hospital.

Regula is charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated, imprudent speed and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Other charges are pending the return of lab tests.
