Kent A. Wiley, 96, of Three Mile Bay

THREE MILE BAY, NY - Kent A. Wiley, 96, of Depot St., passed away at home on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 under the care of his family and hospice of Jefferson County. He was born on April 5, 1921 in Cape Vincent, NY to the late Albert and Lena Peo-Wiley.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Becker-Cleveland Funeral Home, Chaumont, NY.

Kent graduated from Chaumont High School in 1940. He married Mavis Countryman on October 3, 1942 at the Cape Vincent Methodist Church with Rev. James Pauley officiating. They shared 75 wonderful years of marriage together until Mavis’s passing on December 3, 2017.

Kent joined the Army on October 20, 1942 during World War II. He was a part of the 58th Signal Battalion where he served his duty at Camp Bowie, Texas, and Ft. Warren, Wyoming. Kent was deployed to the Philippines, Japan, and New Guinea. He was honorably discharged on January 1946 as a Master Sargent. Before and after his service in the Army, he was employed at N.Y. Air Brake. Kent also operated a dairy farm on the Three Mile Creek Road from 1950 to 1987.

Mr. Wiley served on the Lyme School Board, Jefferson County ASCS, Lyme Town Board, and the Bay View Manor Housing Authority. He was a member of the Cape Vincent American Legion-John Londraville Post #832, the Three Mile Bay Fire Department where he was honored on March 22, 2008 for his 60 year service, the Chaumont Masonic Lodge #172, the Three Mile Bay United Methodist Church, and he was honored by the Town of Lyme Lions Club in 2007 as Citizen of the Year along with Jack Phillips and Dick Schreiber.

Kent is survived by a son and his wife, Preston and Joan Wiley, Perryville, NY; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Wiley, Three Mile Bay; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by a son, Craig Wiley who passed away on March 1, 2003; his sisters Grace Courtenay and Ruth Sheldan; and a brother, Leon Wiley.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 25 at 2PM at the Three Mile Bay United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Stanley officiating. Calling hours will be Saturday, February 24 from 4-8PM at the Becker-Cleveland Funeral Home. There will be a burial in the spring.
