Blockchain Industry executives have plans for a cryptocurrency mine in Massena. It will hunt for virtual currencies such as Bitcoin. It would be located on land the company wants to buy from the town of Massena along County Route 42.

“This really is the industry of the future. And if we have the opportunity to bring those jobs and that kind of economic development impact to Massena, we think it would be great for the local community,” said Brian Lauducci, Blockchain Industries managing director.

Blockchain Industries is willing to pay $225,000 for the land. It wants to invest $600 million there. The cryptocurrency and payment transactions center would employ about 40 people. A separate company planning to locate there would provide hundreds of jobs at a healthcare advocacy call center.

Blockchain Industries is the first Bitcoin mining company to publicly declare its interest in Massena. Another Bitcoin mining company's interest was revealed last month at a New York Authority Power meeting. And word around town is other companies are hunting for sites.

The other Bitcoin mining company wants to locate at the closed Alcoa East smelter. They want electricity and lots of it. Their thousands of computers would consume as much electricity as a small city.

“Massena has the right combination of available land, access to power and the ability to build the real public private partnership we're interested in,” said Lauducci.

Lauducci confirmed the company will be looking for tax breaks. They want to break ground as soon as this year.
