Philadelphia - Ruth M. Hoover, 89, died Tuesday morning, February 27, 2018 at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, NY, where she has resided since 2016.
Born on August 22, 1928 in Theresa, NY, she was a daughter of the late Earl L. and Bertha Worden Gleason. She was educated in local schools and furthered her education at Jefferson Community College, Watertown, NY.
Ruth married Everett N. Hoover on August 2, 1947 at the Philadelphia United Methodist Church Parsonage. Mr. Hoover died January 18, 2010. Lifelong residents of Philadelphia, last residing on Holkins Rd.
She worked at Loblaws Supermarket, Watertown, NY, before going to work for NYS Parks, Recreation and Historical Restoration Office at Keewaydin Park, Alexandria Bay, NY. After retiring she was an Amway Representative for many years.
She was a Den Mother for the Philadelphia Cub Scouts and enjoyed playing cards, dancing, knitting and baking.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Elmer and Susan Hoover, Philadelphia, NY, Elbie Hoover, Homosassa, FL; a daughter, Valerie Bray, Watertown, NY; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Roy Gleason and his companion, Faye Morris, NC, Delos and Pat Gleason, Philadelphia, NY; a sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Ike Filiatrault, Antwerp, NY; twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents, her husband, Everett, a daughter, Veronica Mitchell, three brothers, Wesley Gleason, Elmer Gleason and Harry Gleason, three sisters, Joanne Preston, Jean Aldrich and Mary Hall all died previously.
Funeral Services will be 1 pm Friday, March 2, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY with Ruth’s granddaughter, Mrs. Joni Hoover Bates, officiating. Burial will be in Sanford Corners Cemetery, Calcium, NY.
Calling hours will be from 11-1 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
