They want to help veterans get in the door to college. At SUNY Canton they can apply for free.
SUNY Canton is making it easier for veterans to apply for college. Veterans will no longer have to pay an application fee.
The college's foundation is using donations from the community to make it happen. The school already has services for veterans such as this veterans lounge and waivers on tuition deposits and gym fees. Helping people get in the door to college is one more.
“We are always looking at ways to improve our services for our veterans," said Melissa Evans, SUNY Canton admissions director: "And we thought wouldn't it be great if we could take away that first barrier that is often in place for our students applying to college."
The college currently has about 85 veterans and Reserve and Guard troops on campus. There are also about 40 dependents.
