Woman Gets No Jail Time In Arson Case

Posted: Updated:

There will be no jail time for a 25 year old town of LeRay woman who admitted to setting fire to her roommate's clothes.

Secret Goforth was sentenced Monday in Jefferson County Court to time served and five years probation.

She pleaded guilty in January to fourth-degree arson and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Goforth was arrested last November while she was a tenant at a duplex at 25052 Cooper Avenue.

Authorities said Goforth was upset with someone she lived with and set fire to that person's clothes, which later caught fire in the garage.

State police said Goforth set the blaze after the other person left the home, took a picture of the burning clothes, extinguished the flames, and put the remnants in a garbage bin in the garage.

The clothes reignited, causing a fire that extensively damaged the garage.
