Fort Drum's 2nd Brigade Combat Team Gets New Leader

It's a change in command for Fort Drum's 2nd Brigade Combat Team.

On Wednesday, the brigade's colors were passed from Colonel Scott Himes to the brigade's new commanding officer, Colonel Paul Larson.

Colonel Larson moved from Alaska, where he served as the director of strategy for the United States Army Alaska.

He is no stranger to the north country, having been stationed at Fort Drum in 1998, when an ice storm hit the area.

"It was one of those types of storms that just crippled the area, but because of our strong bonds with the surrounding communities we were able to go out and to assist citizens and the local government to clear the roads and to re-establish some of the electrical lines and stuff,"  said Larson.

The brigade's outgoing commanding officer, Colonel Himes, will be heading to Afghanistan to serve as the director of Strategic Plans and Policy under the Resolute Support Headquarters.
