A Watertown girl has quite the fish story to tell.
This channel catfish, at 37 inches and 28 pounds, is nearly half her size!
Eight year old Leah Cavallario was out on Chaumont Bay Tuesday with her sister, mom and mom's boyfriend, Eric Scordo, who operates Catfish Hunter Charters.
"We set up poles and it was her turn to catch a fish. The rod bent right over, drag started ripping right off the reel and she picked it up. She handled it, reeled it in herself. I barely had to help her and she was happier than heck," said Scordo.
Scordo, who holds the state record with a 35 pound catfish, says catching one the size of Leah's fish is pretty rare.
He says fishing on Lake Ontario has been great so far this season and many people don't appreciate how much fun it is landing a big catfish.
By the way, the fish was released back into the bay.
