Tense Moments In Massena Prompt School Action

Posted: Updated:

There were some tense moments in the village of Massena Monday morning.

Massena Police Chief Adam Love said his department received a report shortly after 9 a.m. of a suicidal man, possibly with a weapon, at the public housing complex on Bayley Road, which is across the street from Jefferson Elementary School.

The school placed the building on a "keep out" status, meaning it prohibited anyone from entering or leaving the school.

Love said law enforcement officers from the village, county and state blocked off the road and surrounded the house. He said police were able to talk the suicidal man out of his home.

At around 11:45 a.m., the man was peacefully taken into custody and taken to Massena Memorial Hospital. Love said no weapon was located.

The school lifted the "keep out" status.
