The Thousand Islands Playhouse Season Opening

Posted: Updated:

The Thousand Islands Playhouse is opening its 2018 season with a comedic classical music duel.

2 Pianos 4 Hands is the riotous tale of two Canadian boys, Ted and Richard, sharing the same goal: concert pianist stardom. They work fervently towards their dream amidst pushy parents, eccentric teachers, hours of repetitive practice, stage fright, the agony of competitions, and the dream of greatness.

Through June 16

As they mature, Ted and Richard become more aware of the gap between the very good and the great, and come to the humbling realization that greatness may be out of their reach.

Two actors, two pianos, and dozens of characters tell their story in a hilarious show of piano wizardry featuring the music of Bach, Beethoven, and Jerry Lee Lewis. 2 Pianos 4 Hands captures the humor that comes with learning to play the piano, the sense of loss one feels learning to let go of a dream, as well as the joy of always having music in one’s life.

The show premiered in Toronto in 1996 and won the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Production, and the Chalmers Canadian Playwriting Award. Nearly 2 million people have seen the play worldwide, making it one of the most successful Canadian plays ever.
