Posted: Updated:

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office said three people were injured, one seriously, in an accident in the southern part of the county.

It happened at around 10 a.m. Wednesday on Route 26 south of Constableville.

Officials said it appears the driver, 26 year old Ashleigh McConnell of Watertown, fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to leave the road and overturn. McConnell suffered minor injuries, investigators said.

Two passengers, identified as 27 year old Andre Morgan of Black River and 28 year old Altawan Alston of Watertown, suffered head injuries. Alston was seriously injured, authorities said.

All three were taken to Lewis County General Hospital.

A state police accident reconstruction team was called to the scene to investigate. Route 26 between Croniezer Road and George Kraeger Road in the town of West Turin closed at 1:35 p.m. so the team could work. It reopened shortly after 3 p.m.
