Waddington - James E. Sheets, 83, of Pork Street, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018.
Friends and family may be received on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 7-9 pm at Phillips Memorial Home in Waddington. Graveside service will take place at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Waddington.
James was born on November 1, 1934 in Waddington, the son of George and Bessie (Duvall) Sheets. He attended schools in the Waddington area and later married Alma Wilson on October 25, 1958 at Waddington Methodist Church. As a boy, James tied up the ferry boat in Waddington and later was an equipment operator during the construction of the Seaway. He also owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. James worked at Ogdensburg Silica for 13 years and later went to work and retire from Stella Cheese.
He enjoyed woodworking in his shop at home and also made cedar wooden fans in his spare time. James loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and always had a joke to tell.
He is survived by his wife, Alma of 59 year; a son, David and Susan Sheets of Waddington; four grandchildren, Michael Sheets, Nicole and Kyle Smith, Misty Whalen and Jessica Sheets; four great grandchildren, Connor, Chloe, Kaidence and Violet; two sisters, Margaret Tiernan and Ruth Campbell both of Chase Mills; a brother, Robert and Germaine Sheets of North Carolina as well as many nieces and nephews.
James was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Morley; a great-granddaughter, Lailah Newton; a brother, Charles Sheets and two sisters, Mary Pike and Florence in infancy.
Memorial contributions may be made in James’ memory to Waddington Fire and Rescue. Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Memorial Home in Waddington. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.PhillipsMemorial.com
