Rita J. LeBlanc, 98, of Massena

Massena - Rita J. LeBlanc, 98 of Highland Ave., passed away on Tuesday evening, July 3, 2018 at St. Regis Nursing Home.

Friends and family may be received on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Massena. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Rita was born on March 26, 1920 in Grande-Riviere, Quebec, the daughter of Benoit and Bernadette (Bisson) Joncas. Rita moved to Massena in 1958, following her marriage to Raymond W. LeBlanc. Despite the distance, Rita remained close to her family throughout her life, specially her siblings, George, Annette, Gilberte, Laurette, Bernard, Irene, Marthe and Raymond; nephews Marc and Yvan as well as nieces, Francoise and Johanne.

Rita was a thoughtful, loyal and generous human being. She was very proud of her affiliation with the Massena Observer newspaper, where she worked as a bookkeeper from 1954 to 1967. As a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, she remained an active member of RCAF. She was also an enthusiastic meeting participant of l’Association Francaise, American Legion Auxiliary and TOPS, where she made many friends.

Throughout her long life, Rita enacted the Christian principles of faith and charity. She was an active participant of the Sacred Heart Church community and she steadfastly supported multiple charitable organizations in American and abroad, including Christian mission in India.

Rita’s family wishes to express their deepest thanks to Carole Francis as well as Pauline and Lloyd Beaudoin for the attention and friendship so generously offered to Rita during the last months of her life.
