William “Jack” J. Bero, 63, of Massena

Massena - William “Jack” J. Bero, 63, passed away on Sunday morning, July 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Friends and family may be received on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Jack was born on February 8, 1955 the son of William and Ellen (Hammill) Bero in Massena. He graduated from Holy Family High School and received his Associates Degree from SUNY Morrisville in Agricultural Business.

He then started working at McCadam Cheese in Chateaugay where he was a supervisor for several years. From there Jack later started dealing livestock, a skill he learned from his Grandfather John E. Hammill at a young age, which he continued throughout his entire life. He later managed and auctioneered at Empire Livestock in Gouverneur for 17 years until retirement in 2017.

William enjoyed watching both college and professional hockey. He was an avid Montreal Canadians Fan as well as a Clarkson University fan. He also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and loved attending local dirt track races. Jack liked to travel, especially taking trips with his children to Maine. There was never a game of Pitch he would turn down when played with his family and cattle buddies. .

Jack is survived by his three children, Ryan Bero and girlfriend Kristina Weaver of Massena, Tobias and Alexandra Bero of Norwood; mother of his children Lisa Morehouse – Bero, also of Norwood; his siblings, Jo Ellen Bero and spouse Dawn Buffham of Massena, Marcia Bero and spouse Shondel Boyden of Colton, Michael and Steven Bero both of Massena; five nieces; Jessica, Lindsay, Hannah and Paige Bero, Trish Howell; two nephews, Beau Boyden and Michael Barkley.  William was not only predeceased by his parents, but also by his brother Francis Bero and sister in law Mary Bero.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Highway 11, Potsdam, NY 13676. Arrangements are under the care of Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.
